Home Safety

The Clayton Police Department works very close with its residents to ensure that their homes are protected.

Some advice we offer homeowners is:

Lock your doors and windows
When your going to be out of town call us and inform us when you will return, ask a neighbor to watch your residence, if you have a newspaper service, have it put on hold until you return. Hold your mail.
Make sure that you keep vegetation to a minimum around your windows.
When you leave at nighttime hours, leave the porch light on.
Do not let anyone enter your residence that you are not familiar with, if a person claims to be from a business and wants to talk to you, ask to see their identification and call their employer for verification.
If possible, use an engraver on all of your merchandise.
Never leave firearms in public view or near children.
It is best to lock your guns (Locks are provided for free at the Police Dept).
